Entry requirements

The entry requirements given alongside the course descriptions are given as general guidance to the level of offers which are made.

We wish to stress that all applicants are considered on an individual basis and that motivation and commitment are considered alongside academic requirements.

All applicants should be able to show their ability to complete their chosen course successfully. Satisfying the minimum or typical entry requirements for a course is not a guarantee of a place.

For further details please contact Glyndŵr University Admissions and Enquiries Team:

Tel: 01978 293439
Fax: 01978 290008
Email: sid@glyndwr.ac.uk

If you are unsure whether you meet the entry requirements then please contact us. We are flexible and understand that some people may not have the formal qualifications but may still have the drive and ability to complete a higher education course.

Undergraduate entry requirements

Please see individual course details for specific entry requirements. Our entry requirements range from 120 UCAS points at A-level or equivalent for foundation degrees to 240 plus for Bachelor degrees. Other requirements, such as CRB or time working in a specific environment may also be required.

UCAS Tariff points can be viewed here.

We are happy to receive applications from applicants with European qualifications,  including, though not limited to, Diploma za Sredno Obrazovanie, Brandos Atestatas, Matura Swiadectwo Dojrzalosci, Diploma de Ensino Secundário and many others. Please contact the Admissions and Enquiry Team to discuss further.
Advanced entry to levels 2 or 3 of a degree course is possible based on previous completion of a HND or foundation degree and a wide variety of European qualifications such as DUT and Abitur. Please include details of your ECTS credits with your application.

Postgraduate entry requirements

The normal entry requirement for postgraduate courses is a recognised degree.

This usually means at least equivalence to a good second-class honours degree standard in a relevant subject.

Please see individual course details for specific entry requirements.

Research degrees

See our Graduate School web pages for more information about entry requirements for research degrees.

Criminal Records Bureau checks

Where indicated in the prospectus or throughout the website, specific programmes / courses may involve regular access to children and/or vulnerable adults, also known as regulated activity. Where this is the case, students will be legally required to undertake a CRB check. The University will send further instructions on undertaking a CRB check as part of the admissions process.

Further information on CRB checks can be found here:

Criminal record checks: an introduction

CRB checks are carried out by the SPC, in both the School for Undergraduate Studies office, and the Postgraduate office. You must complete the CRB form in person at the relevant SPC office, you will not be allowed to take these forms away to complete as each form is numbered and tracked.

An enhanced CRB check (which you will need) currently costs £44. Payment must be made in advance, either online or to the Cash Office (B Corridor - Plas Coch Campus). Online payments can be made via:

https://payonline.glyndwr.ac.uk/

The UCAS application and the Direct Entry Application Form require you to state if you have a “relevant” criminal conviction. “Relevant” is any criminal offence involving any kind of violence, offences concerning the intention to harm or resulting in actual bodily harm, the unlawful supply of controlled drugs or substances where the conviction concerns commercial drug dealing or trafficking, offences involving firearms, arson or those listed in the Sex Offences Act 2003 or the Terrorism Act 2006.

Convictions which are spent (as defined in by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974) are not considered relevant. Certain professions or occupations involving work with children or vulnerable adults are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974).

If you are applying to do a course where a CRB is required (please check the entry requirements for the course) you should select “Yes” if you have ever had a conviction, even if it is spent.

For further guidance please look at the information shown against the programme/course or contact the Admissions and Enquiries Team on 01978 293439.
