Part-time undergraduate courses

Part-time undergraduate courses

We understand that everyone has different ways of living their lives and fitting in the things they want to achieve.

We support thousands of people to study more flexibly, in a way that suits their individual needs, by offering many of our courses on a part-time basis.

Writing a Personal Statement

Writing a Personal Statement is probably the most daunting part of the application process for most applicants. Don't worry - give yourself as much time as possible to plan and check out the advice available.

A few points for you to consider when planning and writing your Personal Statement:

  • why are you applying for your chosen course(s)?
  • what experiences have you already had which will help you be successful at university?
  • what skills and experience outside of school/college, perhaps from part-time work or hobbies, have you gained?
  • if you are a mature applicant, explain your reasons for returning to education and what life experiences you will draw on during your studies
  • what are your hobbies and can they help explain your reasons for your course choice?
  • ensure that you get someone else to read your drafts and give you some suggestions and make any corrections
  • ensure your spelling, grammar and punctuation are correct

UCAS provides a video clip and planning materials, such as a mindmap and a worksheet, plus other advice. Click here for more information.
