University research centre for health, wellbeing and societyThe Health, Wellbeing and Society Research Centre based at Glyndŵr University brings together expertise in health and social care to explore key health and wellbeing issues within the wider societal context. The centre builds on a key partnership between researchers within public health, education, nursing and social policy, the latter of which is represented by the Social Inclusion Research Unit which sits within the centre’s remit. The centre brings together academic staff and research students with shared interests in some of the most fundamental challenges and opportunities in society today. The Professional and Vocational Education Research Unit also sits within the centre. The key themes underpinning the centre’s research are:
Members of the centre are research active with specialist knowledge of the key themes above. The centre is inclusive in that it provides a nurturing context for the research socialisation of junior colleagues across the University Institute for Health, Medical Sciences and Society. It has access to up to date and relevant resources, both of a general and specialised nature and runs a seminar programme at which research students and external speakers present. The centre also brings together expertise from disciplines across the university which are relevant to health, wellbeing and society. These particularly include sport and exercise sciences, psychology and education. A priority for the centre, which offers a bilingual research service, is to engage with the local, regional and national research agenda. The university’s close links with the North Wales Clinical School mean the centre is ideally placed to lead and develop research which is connected to current priorities in health and social care.
