Frequently Asked Questions
1. How do I get accommodation?
You can apply for accommodation through our online application system.
2. Do I need to contact you?
If you have found your own accommodation, or if you have decided you are no longer coming to Glyndŵr University this year, then please inform the accommodation team of your change in circumstance on 01978 293344.
You should also contact us if the information you gave us is no longer correct, for example, if you have developed a medical problem, or if your contact information has changed.
3. Can I change my accommodation?
You will need to contact Accommodation Services (after you have arrived) if you are unhappy with your accommodation. There are no guarantees that you will be able to change your accommodation but feel free to discuss your concerns with a customer service advisor.
(Remember - you will have signed a legally binding contract specifically for your room for a fixed period).
4. I'm a clearing student, what about accommodation?
We do not guarantee clearing students accommodation but we anticipate that this year, we will be able to offer accommodation to most clearing students. This may be only temporary accommodation initially until there is suitable permanent accommodation.
If you live locally or are able to commute to Glyndŵr University we may ask you to stay at home for the first few weeks, rather than in temporary accommodation, until a space becomes available. If this is to be the case we will phone you to let you know. Although all our accommodation is usually full at the beginning of the semester, within a few weeks vacancies do become available.
We can only begin to house clearing students after the majority of other students have been housed. As a consequence you may not be told where you are living until a couple of days before you come to Wrexham. We will however try to let you know as soon as possible.
As a clearing student, it is unlikely that we will be able to offer you your preference and there is a higher chance of being offered a shared room. However, you will usually be able to change to other university accommodation after the first few weeks if you are unhappy.
5. Can I change my preferences?
It may not be possible to change your preferences as your accommodation may already have been allocated. If it has not yet been allocated, we will try to do this. Please contact us with your name and new preferences. We will try to meet these changed preferences but it may not always be possible to do so. We also need written confirmation from you. This can be sent by letter, fax or email.
6. What if I don't hear from you?
If you have not received a contract by 10 September 2012 and you are concerned about your accommodation, please do not hesitate to contact us by: -
Telephone 01978-293344
Email: accommodation@glyndwr.ac.uk
7. Is it a problem if I am on holiday in September?
If you will be away from home for more than a week during early September, please access your email upon your return to check for your contract. We will only hold open an offer of accommodation for 14 days (longer if you do not live in the UK). If you have not replied, we will assume that you do not want the offer and give the room to another student.
8. What accommodation will you offer me?
We will try to offer you one of your preferences but unfortunately we can not make any guarantees.
9. I've got a shared room, is there anything I can do about it?
A number of our places are in shared rooms. Only a very small number of students prefer to share and it means that we have to allocate some shared places to people who would have preferred a single room. The accdommodation team take particular care when allocating these rooms. Most room mates get on very well and stay in the same room throughout the year. But if you decide you would like to move, we can sometimes move you later in the first term, usually into a single room.
10. Can I be moved to on-campus accommodation?
Some of the accommodation is not on campus and you may decide that you want to be moved into on-campus accommodation. It may not be possible to move you straight away as there may not be any on-campus vacancies, but you must inform the accommodation team that you would like to move (and your reasons for wanting to move). You will then be put on a waiting list for the accommodation of your choice. You will be informed as soon as a room becomes available.
11. I can't afford the accommodation. Can you offer me something cheaper?
If you cannot afford the accommodation that we have offered we will try to offer you cheaper, more basic accommodation.
In order for us to be able to do this you need to write to or email the accommodation services explaining the circumstances and providing as much detail as possible.
12. Can you give me another offer of accommodation?
The accommodation team are only in a position to provide one offer of accommodation before the start of term because we have to process applications from a large number of students after A-Level results.
If you decide to reject the offer of accommodation, we may not be in a position to offer you anything else. We will not make a second offer of accommodation until everyone else has received a first offer and we do not anticipate having any vacancies at the start of the semester. However, there is a very good supply of private rented accommodation available in Wrexham; click here for more details.
13. What information is in the contract?
Your contract contains your personal details and your booking details which show the room that you have been allocated.
Your contract also shows the amount that you need to pay for your accommodation fees, your financial terms and conditions and the terms and conditions of occupancy.
Information about living in Glyndŵr University accommodation and moving into accommodation is provided in the online induction and arrivals section of the online application system.
14. Do I have to pay you a deposit in advance?
When you accept your contract you will be asked for a £250 prepayment. This prepayment is deducted from your first instalment.
15. Can I come and look at my accommodation before I move in?
If you wish to view your accommodation before you move in please contact the accommodation team and a viewing appointment will be made available for you.
