MRes Sport & Exercise Sciences

This MRes degree is designed for continued professional development in the field of sport and exercise science. The degree is designed for students who wish to make it to the top of the field.

This postgraduate degree has been designed to provide a flexible course involving taught and research modules which can be tailored to help you pursue an area of your interest.As part of the course you have the opportunity to complete a negotiated learning module which allows you to tailor your degree to your specific career aim or topic of interest. For example you may wish to undertake an applied placement in preparation for BASES Supervised Experience; develop a range of marketing materials to publicise health/fitness events; or complete a work-based case study.

The purpose of the core elements of the programme is to provide structured training in research methodology and transferable skills which will inform the development of a coherent and feasible research proposal.

  • Excellent sport facilities on campus including a Human Performance Laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment; an international standard water-based Astroturf pitch and modern sports hall

For some students a CRB check may be necessary depending on the focus of their independent study.

This unique degree is tailored to the specific requirements of the individual, making it not only extremely flexible but also very relevant in the real world. The MRes could also be used as a springboard into a PhD.

Entry requirements

Applications are invited from those who have a 2:2 honours degree classification (or above) in the field of sport and exercise science (or a relevant discipline). A non-graduate qualification and a minimum of two years’ experience in a responsible position which is relevant to the field of study, and which together are deemed by Glyndŵr University to be of a satisfactory standard for entry to a Master of Research degree may also be considered.

The modules are assessed in a variety of ways including the opportunity to tailor some assessments to your
own requirements.
