BA (Hons) Social Work: Qualified Status
Working in social work is an intensely challenging but rewarding career. You will develop excellent communication, advocacy and decision-making skills.
BA (Hons) Social Work graduates also gain a professional award in social work. The course covers the importance and value of social work, its development in social policy contexts and the legislative frameworks within which it operates. It gives you the opportunity to explore working with different service user groups and within diverse practice settings. You will develop a range of key skills, including advanced communication, assessment, methods of intervention, management and evaluative research.

In order to be accepted onto the course you must eligible to register as a student social worker with the relevant care council in your country of residence. You will have the opportunity to complete the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) which you must pass in order to graduate

Course Content
BA (Hons) Social Work: Qualified Status
The course will take you through a detailed study of social work methods and processes and practice. This will be underpinned by study of theoretical, policy and legal contexts. You will undertake three periods of practice to prepare you for the ‘fitness for practice’ element of the course.

Career opportunities
You will gain qualified social worker status upon graduation. Employment prospects within social work and social care are excellent as there is currently a shortage of social workers in the UK and there are good opportunities for career progression.
Assessment
There is a variety of assessment methods for this course including presentations, seminar papers and traditional written assignments. There is also one examination for social work law. You will be required to undertake a dissertation as part of your final assessment.

Entry requirements and applying
The entry requirements for this degree are 260 UCAS points at A2 level or equivalent, preferably in a relevant subject area such as Sociology or Psychology. Relevant practical experience is also essential prior to applying for the course. Before you are offered an unconditional place on this degree you will be required to complete a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) form and pay the appropriate fee, so that a check can be made on your suitability for working with children and/or vulnerable adults. Applications received by 15th January will be considered for interview after this date and interviews are planned to take place in late February/early March. Applications made after the UCAS January 15th deadline will be considered according to date of application as long as places are still available after which the course will be closed for applications.
Please note: we do not accept deferred entries for Social Work. If you do apply for deferred entry, you will be rejected with the advice to reapply the following year.
