BA (Hons) Television Production and Technology

Learn and work in a real production environment. This degree is developed in close collaboration with the BBC, Skillset and leading industry experts.

The UK is commonly known as the third largest film entertainment market in the world; the largest generator of creative industries in Europe and the largest producer for TV and radio content.

This course will equip you with the key technical skills, design and artistic concepts required for success in the creative industries.

Our Centre for the Creative Industries is purpose-built to the highest production standards, and is home to BBC Cymru in North East Wales. This offers a major advantage to graduates, who can benefit from networking with industry professionals, guest seminars from the BBC and other leading broadcast and production companies etc.

This course is different to many - students can engage in the day-to-day operation of the television channels and production facility, extending student participation beyond the lecture theatre.

The course modules of study are designed to provide a broad base of knowledge that bridge the artistic and design considerations of production. You will learn the technical expertise and ability to deliver media across multiple platforms. This is essential in the production environment as roles and responsibilities are blurred through the ongoing development of technology.

Career opportunities go across formats: drama, documentary, commercials, music media, entertainment, lifestyle, news and more.

Graduates from our creative industries courses have gone on to work for companies such as the BBC, Channel 4, S4C, Disney and EA Games taking on roles as directors, producers, VFX artists, designers; working on titles such as A Bug’s Life, The Corpse Bride, Fantastic Mr. Fox and the Harry Potter games series.

Graduates are equipped with the business acumen to succeed in an industry that relies heavily on freelance multi-skilled practitioners.

Assessment

There is a range of assessment methods used for this course including creating TV productions, essays, work based learning, portfolios, reports, and presentations. All assessments will be course based, and therefore there are no exams on the course.
