Humanities
Humanities at Glyndŵr University covers a broad range of subjects: Broadcasting and Journalism, Creative Writing, English, History, Media Communications, Screen Studies, Theatre, Television and Performance, Print Journalism, and Welsh Translation.
The University also runs short courses in Celtic Studies, Welsh Language, European Languages and British Studies. In addition the School delivers two taught postgraduate programmes, an MA in English Literary Culture: 1880-1920 and an MA in Local History.
Our staff are friendly and approachable and we place great emphasis on providing support and encouragement for all students. Teaching and learning in humanities takes a number of forms, from formal lectures and viewing sessions to seminars, tutorials and workshops. Staff are highly qualified, both in terms of academic status and professional experience and a number of staff members are engaged in current professional practice (in areas such as Writing, Journalism, Broadcasting and Theatre and Performance) which feed directly in to their teaching and provide links and contacts for students.
Degree programmes in Humanities are ideal for those people who want to broaden their horizons and who want and need a stimulating programme of study which will provide a springboard into diverse and exciting career possibilities. Subjects can be combined across the BA portfolio, and there are a range of degree titles available. Students come from all backgrounds, from sixth form entrants to those returning to education to further their careers.
Glyndŵr University has exciting links with local theatres including Clwyd Theatr Cymru, and contacts with organisations including the BBC, local councils and organisations as well as companies in the region. There are excellent facilities on campus, with dedicated performance space in the Terry Hands Studios for Theatre and Performance students, and a conference and performing arts centre, the Catrin Finch Centre.
