Julie Brake

BA (Hons), PGCE

Senior Lecturer in Welsh

Julie’s first degree, in History, was undertaken at the University of Wales, Lampeter. She then went on to complete a PGCE at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, and later graduated with a First Class honours degree in Welsh from the same university.

She taught Welsh for Adults for a number of years for the Department of Extra-Mural Studies at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, before joining the Welsh Department of the University of Wales, Lampeter, where she taught Welsh, Welsh history and Welsh literature, and organised Easter and Summer courses in Welsh.

Whilst at Lampeter she became interested in online learning and was eventually appointed Director of the E-learning Centre. She left Lampeter to head Welsh for Adults within the Department of Education, Ceredigion County Council, before joining Glyndŵr University in 2007.

Julie’s research interests include second language acquisition, comparative linguistics and the use of technology to support language learning. This has led her to produce a wide range of online and text-based teaching materials for learners and other publications related to Welsh culture. Currently pending are a Welsh dictionary, grammar book and Welsh textbook.
