GlaxoSmithKline

We are involved in a private research project with Glaxosmithkline. Initially the company funded a post-doctoral research assistant to work exclusively on their project for 12 months. At the annual review it was decided that investment into this project would be doubled and in November 2010 another research assistant post was created and we now have two members of staff working exclusively on this project.

Glaxosmithkline is a research-based pharmaceutical company; they screen about 65 million compounds a year in their search for new medicines. They market a range of products including over-the-counter medicines, dental and skincare products.

The research involves the characterisation of pharmaceutical products using techniques such as rheometry and differential scanning calorimetry. The overall aim is to help identify and understand problems associated with scale-up and transfer of product recipes between different manufacturing sites.
