Tim Donovan

BSc (Hons), UKSCA, PGCHE, PhD

Tim Donovan

Tim completed his degree in coaching science at Liverpool John Moores University in 1997 achieving a first class honours.  He started as an assistant lecturer on the Sport Science and Coaching Science degrees in 1998 at LJMU whilst studying for a PhD part time.

In 1998 he obtained a postgraduate teaching qualification and in 1999 he started working for the Amateur Rowing Association as North West regional sports development officer.

Tim completed his PhD in the physiology of racing and training in rowing in 2005 and commenced work as a lecturer in sports development at Manchester Metropolitan University but decided that the facilities and structure at NEWI (as Glyndŵr University was then known) offered him the best opportunity to develop his interest in applied physiology.

Tim is a keen rower and has won 8 national rowing championships, has represented GB at indoor rowing, won a bronze medal for Wales in the 2002 Commonwealth Games and also holds the world record for 24 hours on a rowing ergometer.  He has coached athletes that have gone on to win national, world championship and Olympic medals in rowing and is currently a coach for the Welsh rowing team.  He is a silver level rowing coach, coach tutor and assessor and has helped the Amateur Rowing Association develop its new coaching awards.
